Executive Team

Dr. Ruhong Jiang, PhD, Co-founder, President and CEO

Most recently, Dr. Jiang has served as General Manager of China Operation at MicuRx Pharmaceuticals (a California-based novel drug discovery company). Dr. Jiang received Ph.D. degree in U.S. and has more than twenty-five years experiences in life science research, and more than 12 years of product development and management experience in several biotech companies. Dr. Jiang led a team to launch one of the first personalized medicine diagnostic test FamilionTM in the US market. Dr. Jiang has developed an extensive network in the biotech industry and academic institutions both in U.S. and China.

Dr. Yanru Chen-Tsai, PhD, Co-founder and Scientific Consultant

Co-Founder of several biotechnology companies, Dr. Chen-Tsai has been working with embryonic stem cells for over 12 years. Her lab at Stanford University has successfully isolated many novel embryonic stem cell lines using their proprietary technologies. One of the ES cell lines was licensed to Chemicon (currently is part of Millipore). Dr. Chen-Tsai is also a leading expert in disease animal models including transgenic and knockout mouse models. Besides running her own lab, Dr. Chen-Tsai is an Associate Director of the Stanford University Cancer Center, overseeing eight cancer research support labs. Dr. Chen-Tsai is the author of many scientific papers and the holder of several technical licenses. She has been involved with life science research since 1982.

Dr. Michael Cleary, MD, Co-founder and Scientific Advisor

Associate Chair for Experimental Pathology, Stanford University School of Medicine and Director of Pediatric Cancer Biology, Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Cleary received his MD in The University of Cincinnati Medicine (1981). His laboratory studies the molecular pathogenesis of cancer. They have discovered several genes that are damaged by chromosomal translocations in human leukemias. His group is currently investigating the normal functions of these genes and their contributions to cancer employing a variety of experimental approaches that include biochemical techniques and in vitro cellular transformation assays as well as genetic analyses using transgenic and knockout mouse models.

Dr. Steve Yu, MD and PhD, Head of R&D

Dr. Yu graduated from Southeast University, China in 1984. He received his PhD at Institute of Microbiology and Epidemiology, China in 1995. Dr. Yu was next trained at Yale University and then worked as a researcher in School of Medicine at Yale University. Steve has more than 10 years of experience in generating genetically engineered mouse models, targeting vector construction and ES cell targeting.

Dr. Hong Wu, MD and Ph.D., Scientific Advisor

Hong Wu is a Professor of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology at UCLA School of Medicine, and a member of UCLA Molecular Biology Institute and Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. She is the Director of the UCLA Molecular Genetics Technology Center and the co-director of Cancer Stem Cell Program area of the newly formed UCLA Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Medicine. Dr. Wu received her M.D. degree from Beijing Medical College, China, and her Ph.D. degree in biological chemistry from Harvard Medical School, working with Rudolf Jaenisch at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research. She was a Damon Runyon-Walter Winchell postdoctoral fellow with Harvey Lodish at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, MIT. Her laboratory studies the signal transduction pathways controlled by the PTEN tumor suppressor gene, using various genetically engineered animal tumor models.

Dr. Guo-Liang Yu, PhD, Advisor

Dr. Yu, president and CEO of Epitomics, Inc., is a biotechnologist and entrepreneur with more than 12 years of experience in genomics, and 25 years of experience in life sciences research. Before co-founding Epitomics, Dr. Yu was Senior Vice-President of Research and Development at Mendel Biotechnology Inc. At Mendel Biotechnology, Dr. Yu established a robust functional genomics program, exceeded all six milestones for the Research Agreement with Monsanto and Savia, and managed over 60 Ph.D. scientists and research associates. Before joining Mendel Biotechnology, Dr. Yu was with Human Genome Sciences, Inc., a prominent genomics company, as one of the first Senior Scientists involved in the establishment of the high throughput gene discovery program. While at Human Genome Sciences, Dr. Yu led the technology development group and cancer group. He identified and characterized numerous genes for therapeutic protein and drug discovery. Dr. Yu was a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Harvard Medical School.
